The tail is really what's supporting the hind end as that left hind leg is just a shade off the ground Thus, the base of the tail is really thick (read - strong castings there) and will have a wire to the tail tip to maintain it's strength (bless you Will for your accomadations!). It's also slightly an illustion made to look like it sprays a bit more over the rump than it does.
